Lions, And Tigers, And Flying Monkeys? Oh, MY! This one is for Angelique.

It is true that I wear a rather large medallion around my neck for inspiration. It is, indeed, a portrait of a FLYING MONKEY. Flying monkeys must scare people, because I am often asked if it is some sort of demon. I wonder how many children that scene scared in the Wizard of Oz? Of course, I love all things dark and dangerous so that was my favorite scene when I was a kid. I wear the medallion to remind me that imagination is key in the type of work that I am in. I am a hopeless realist and fatalist from the bottom of my dark, dark heart and you can imagine how that might interfere. Thank you so much for your comment, Angelique.     Can we see a photo of the necklace, Kyndra?

    I am afraid of all monkeys, although not so much as I used to be, and it all came from those darned flying monkeys in the Phillip Morris suits and hats (you are way too young for this allusion). Every year I get at least one birthday card with a monkey: comedians. I keep several photos of monkeys in my drawer, and I pull them out once in a while and see if they still give me shivers. And they do.

    I LOVE The Wizard of Oz because I love to scare myself. I let my son stay up late to watch it when he was five years old. I said, "Here comes the scarey part... the flying monkeys!" After he watched the scene, he said, "Those aren't even real monkeys, Mom."

    Have you seen Return to Oz? It is ten times creepier.

    I have not seen Return to Oz. Now I have to. I will ask permission from the maker of my pendant (There is a website on the back, as it is handcrafted.) to post a picture of it here. As a writer I always feel it is very important to contact the artist before publishing, but if she says yes I will post the image as my profile pic!
